Efflorescence a stop-motion short following Hearst, an exploited artist attempting to break free from his captors.
Plot
In the small village of Amiens, nestled along the gentle hills of Wittern Isles, Hearst Creux struggles to provide for his family after a bad harvest on their family farm. Mayor Laurent Arseanu hears of his family’s struggles and gives Hearst the opportunity to paint a mural celebrating the one-thousandth-year anniversary of the town's founding. Hearst agrees, knowing it will pay for a year's worth of food for his family. While working on the mural, he is given a rare paint that knocks him unconscious and awakens at the bottom of a cavernous well.

For 10 years, Hearst is imprisoned in the well, forced to create art for his captors. He has no communication with the outside world, other than the slips of orders that he must fulfill. As his hope fades, suddenly a peculiar order floats down from above. His eyes widen in surprise when he reads he must paint a poster for Théâtre du Séraphique about a girl made of thorns, Effloresce. Stunned, he realizes this is not just any person, it's his daughter! Reinvigorated with hope, he plots a way to send her a hidden message.
